Altitude Sickness and Prevention

Upper Mustang Biking is a high altitude journey, where you will be traveling above 3,000 meters. During the high elevation journey, there are high chances of suffering from altitude sickness. Also known as AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), altitude sickness is a common illness traveler suffers from while traveling in a higher elevation. To avoid this, add enough acclimatization day in the tour and drink plenty of water.

However, in the main cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, you can reside in 3-star to 5-star hotels. Your budget will be a major deciding factor.

In the trail, you’ll mostly dine on dal bhat whereas, in the city, you can choose from a variety of cuisines. While on the trail, you won’t eat anything fancy. You can expect to find Tibetan and Nepali dishes on the high altitude. Where in the lower region, you can find dishes like noodles, momo, rice, curries, flatbread, sandwich, and the egg will be available.

Best time to go on Upper Mustang Biking Tour

When all parts of Nepal are receiving heavy rainfall making the trail slippery and dangerous, Upper Mustang receives little to no rainfall. Day 1 - Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

You will arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport, where one of the members of our team will greet you. He will take you to the hotel in a private tourist bus/van. In the evening, you will explore the bustling streets of Thamel, and end your day enjoying delicious welcome dinner.

Day 2 - Permits Procedure and afternoon flight to Pokhara

You will arrange all the permits along with the guide. Later in the afternoon, you will fly to Pokhara. Upon reaching Pokhara, you will head to the hotel. In the evening, you can explore around Lakeside market and do boating on Fewa Lake.

Day 3 - Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (2,710m) 20 minutes and a biking trip to Kagbeni (2,800m)

An early morning flight will take you to Jomsom, one of the most beautiful places in Nepal. From Jomsom, you will begin biking towards Kagbeni. The trail passes by small settlements areas.

Day 4 - Biking Trip from Kagbeni to Muktinath (3,800m)

The trail today will take you to the holies sites of Hindus Muktinath from Kagbeni. Biking on a rugged path, you will arrive at the Muktinath.

Day 5 - Biking Trip from Muktinath to Chele (3,050m); Distance: 18Km

Facing strong winds, you will ascend on a hill and reach Tangbe village. Here, you will get to see amazing narrow alleys, barley & buckwheat fields, white-washed houses, and beautiful apple orchards. From here, you will pass by another village and cross a river before reaching Chele.

Day 6 - Biking Trip from Chele to Syangboche (3,800m); Distance: 20km

Today, the trail will be a little tough, however, stunning scenery will keep your accompanied throughout the way. Some parts might not be rideable, therefore you have to push the bicycle at that time. Crossing four few passes, you will reach Syangboche.

Day 7 - Biking Trip from Syangboche to Tsarang (3,560m); Distance: 22 km

From Syangboche, the trail gradually ascends towards Tsarang. On the way, you will get to see a beautiful landscape view. The trail will pass by small settlement areas as well.

Day 8 - Biking Trip from Tsarang to Lo-Manthang (3,800m); Distance: 20Km

You will ascend to Lo Gekar where you will visit Gekar gompa, which is said to be older than Samye Gompa in Tibet. Further, you will ride on a nice path, which includes a few ascends and take you to Lo Manthang, the walled city.

Day 9 - In and Around Lo-Manthang (3,800m)

Today, you will go on a short hike to Namgyal Gompa situated on a hilltop. After that, you will go on tour to Tingkhar, the last village in the northwest of Lo Manthang. After exploring around, you get back to Lo Manthang for a night stay.

Day 10 - Biking Trip from Lo-Manthang to Ghami (3,510m) via Ghar Gompa

After a quick breakfast, you will ride to Ghami. The trail will descend through the rocky path while offering you scenic views.

Day 11 - Biking Trip from Ghami to Samar (3,620m); Distance: 32Km

You will ride upwards towards Nyla Pass. From here, the trail descends to Samar. On the way, you will get to explore Ranchung Cave.

Day 12 - Biking Trip from Samar to Marpha (2,670m); Distance: 30km

The trail ascends to Da Jorila Pass, and then descend to Chaile. Further, biking along Kali Gandaki riverbank, you will reach Kahbeni. After taking a short lunch break, the trail moves along Kali Gandaki gorge and takes you to Marpha. Here, you will see beautiful apple orchards and get taste some delicious apple products.

Day 13 - Biking Trip from Marpha to Tatopani (1,190m); Distance: 45Km

Leaving Marpha behind, you will ride towards the Kali Gandaki River. The trail descends along with presenting superb views of snow-capped mountains. You will soon reach Tatopani, where you can relax in a natural hot spring.

Day 14 - Biking Trip from Tatopani to Beni (1,000m) and then Drive to Pokhara; Distance: 18Km

Riding along the riverbank, you will reach Beni Bazar. From here, you will drive to Pokhara. In the evening, you will get to explore the lively night market of Lakeside, and end your day having delicious food while looking over sunset.

Day 15 - Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu; 25 minutes

From Pokhara, you will be flying to Kathmandu. The flight will be short and scenic. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will head to the hotel. The rest of the day is leisure for you to explore around and rest.

Day 16 - Kathmandu rests day and enjoys farewell dinner

This is another leisure day for you in Kathmandu. If you want we can arrange a guided sightseeing tour for you. Enjoy your day here. Do shopping and have delicious food. In the evening, you will have a farewell dinner organized by the company.

**Day 17 - Final Departure from Kathmandu ** Today, you will head back to your home. One of the members of our team will take you to the airport as per your flight time and bid you our last goodbye.
