Altitude Sickness and Prevention

Altitude sickness can become a major problem while high altitude trekking. It is a common illness that occurs if your body is not properly acclimatized with the altitude. This can happen to anyone regardless of their age and physical fitness. Sort in breathing, fatigue, headache, and loss of sleep are the most common symptoms.

The first and foremost thing you have to do to avoid altitude sickness is by adding enough rest days in the itinerary. Walk slowly and let your body adjust to the surroundings. Keep yourself hydrated and avoid alcoholic drinks.

Transportation and Bag Pack

The journey begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Chame. From here, you will gradually ascend towards the summit of Thorong Peak through several villages.

Food and Accommodation during Thorong Peak Climbing

Your accommodation during the trek will be a tea house or guesthouse. The food during your stay in the teahouse will be based on their menu. From Thorong La Pass, you will stay overnight in a tent set by crew members and during this time, meals will be also prepared by the crew members.

During your stay in a teahouse, you can expect to get dishes like rice, curry, bread, veggies, eggs, momo, noodles, soup, tea, coffee, etc. Likewise, from base camp, the meals will be prepared and served by porters.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Arrive at Kathmandu airport, where one of our team members will welcome you and take you to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and explore around. In the evening, you will have a welcome dinner organized by the company.

Day 02: Full day sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley

Today, you will prepare for the trip. Meet with your guide. He will brief you about the trip and go through the gears gradually. You will be informed about the trek and the region you will be traveling. If there will be a problem with equipment then you will do some shopping as well.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Chame (2,770m); 7 hours by jeep

Drive to Dharapani, the starting point of the trek. The drive will be following the Trishuli river and present you with the gorgeous scenery. On the way, you will pass by Dharapani before reaching Chame.

Day 04: Trek from Chame to Lower Pisang (3,200m); 5/6 hours

The trek begins with a narrow path that further goes through dense pine forests. You will come across a huge rock face rising 1,500 meters from the river. The trail then moves towards Pisang while presenting superb views of the Himalayan mountains.

Day 05: Trek from Lower Pisang to Manang Village (3,540m); 5/6 hours

The trail today will take you to picturesque Manang village. As you will approach Manang the climate begins to get cold and dry. You will also visit the Barge monastery, the biggest monastery in Manang District.

Day 06: Acclimatization Day and exploring village and lakes

This day is for acclimatization. You will explore Manang today. You can go on short hikes to nearby hills or villages. From Manang, you will get to see superb views of Chulu West (6,419 m), Chulu East (6,429 m), Mt. Gangapurna (7,454 m), Mt. Annapurna III (7,555 m), and other mountains.

Day 07: Trek from Manang Village to Yak Kharka (4,020m); 4/5 hours

Crossing a stream, you will ascend to Tenki village. The trail then moves out of Marshyangdi Valley and turns northwest towards Jarsang Khola Valley. Trekking through pastures and scrub of juniper trees, you will ascend. From Ghunsa village, you will pass by meadows and cross a river on a small wooden bridge. Further, passing by the old mani wall, you will reach Yak Kharka.

Day 08: Trek from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi (4,525m); 6/7 hours

The trail today will mostly include an uphill walk to Thorong Phedi. You will cross a suspension bridge and reach Ledar village. Further, trekking through huge cliffs, you will reach Thorang Phedi from where you will get to see impressive views of Mt. Syagang, Thorung Peak, Mt. Gundang, and Mt. Khatungkan.

Day 09: Trek from Thorong Phedi to Thorong La (5,416m); 5/6 hours

Today, you will climb towards the challenging Thorong La Pass. You will begin walking towards the pass early in the morning. Upon reaching the pass, you will see a gorgeous landscape view. You will set up your camp with your other team members for a night stay.

Day 10: Preparation Day for Climbing

This day is for preparation before you embark on the main climbing. Today, your team leader will brief you on some basic mountaineering techniques that will help you in further climbing. He will teach you the proper use of ascender, harness, crampons, rope, ice-ax, climbing boots, etc.

Day 11: Summit to Thorong Peak (6,144m) and trek to Muktinath (3,760m)

Today, you will begin climbing early in the morning to avoid high winds. The ascend will be on a steep path. You will get to see an impressive view of Kali Gandaki Valley. Upon reaching the top of the summit, you will get to see heartwarming views of Himalayas. The trail further drops down to one of the very religious and famous spots, Muktinath.

Day 12: Extra Day for climbing due to bad weather or AMS

It is an extra day for any contingency. In case of bad weather, if you will not be able to reach the summit as per the itinerary then this can be used. If everything goes as per plan, then you can use this extra day in the city to explore around.

Day 13: Trek from Muktinath to Kagbeni (2,810m); 4-5hours

The trail will mostly descend today on a windy terrain. The day will begin early in the morning with your visit to the Muktinath temple. After that, you will pass by small settlement areas and cross small streams to reach Kagbeni.

Day 14: Trek from Kagbeni to Jomsom (2,720m); 5-6hours via Lubra Village

This is the last day of the trek. You will walk through beautiful scenery along the Kaligandaki River. On the way, you will see the stunning view of Mt. Nilgiri and a few suspension bridges decorated with colorful prayer flags. Crossing a thrilling wooden bridge, you will walk on a lovely path filled with apple trees and reach Jomsom.

Day 15: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara (820m); 40minutes and transfer to Hotel

An early morning scenic flight will take you back to Pokhara. Upon reaching Pokhara, you will move to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore around the Lakeside market. You will also do boating on the serene Fewa Lake and do shopping.

Day 16: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel

Today, you will fly to Kathmandu. The flight will offer you a scenic view of lush green hills, small settlements, and huge mountains on far distant. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will get moved to the hotel. Have your time for the rest of the day. In the evening, you will join the farewell dinner organized for you by the company.

Day 17: Final Departure to International Airport

As per yu flight scheduled time, one of our delegates will take you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight back to your next destination
