Altitude Sickness and Prevention
Mardi Himal trek will take you above 4,000 meters, and the high elevation can also trigger altitude sickness to some people. Altitude sickness or Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) can occur to anyone regardless of their age and health condition. Therefore, it is very important to acclimatize properly in the lower elevation before heading higher. In case, if you feel difficulty in breathing and nauseous, drop down to lower elevation and rest until you feel better before moving ahead.
The best thing you can do to avoid AMS is by keeping yourself hydrated during the trek. Do not consume any alcoholic drinks as it dehydrates the body. Also, ask your travel company to include enough rest days in between the trek for acclimatization.
Transportation and Bag Pack
You will drive or fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara. From Pokhara, you will take a short drive to Kande and begin trekking towards Mardi Himal Base Camp.
Food and Accommodation during Mardi Himal Trekking
During this Mardi Himal trek, you will be staying at guesthouses and small lodges. This is a relatively new trail so there are not many guesthouses and lodges available, but fear not as you don’t have to camp. You will have food as per the menu of the place you are staying. Dishes like chapati, rice, curries (veg/non-veg), momo, chowmin, thukpa, bread, bakeries, bars, snacks, tea, coffee, etc.
In the major cities, there are 3-star and 5-star hotels, which will be your place of residence. These hotels have their own restaurants, and if you don’t like their food, then there is the option of eating at any nearby restaurants.
Best Season to go on Mardi Himal Trek
The Mardi Himal trek can be best done either during the Spring season or during the Autumn season. As per many reviews, it is best advised that you take this trek during Autumn. The main reason behind it is that the views are much more promising during this time of the year, and there are fewer chances of landslides and other blockages. Some of the teahouses in these parts are only open during the peak trekking season so it would be best to travel during this time of the year.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
After arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be picked up by one of our team representatives. He will accompany you to the hotel. Rest of the day is free for you to relax. Later in the night, you will meet with your guide in your hotel lobby, and he will take you to the restaurant where you will have a delicious welcome dinner.
Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu and meeting with your trekking guide
Today, you will visit several monuments in Kathmandu Valley. The day starts with a visit to sacred Pashupatinath Temple. From here, you will visit the largest stupa in Nepal, Boudhanath Stupa. Later, you will drive to the famous Monkey Temple aka Swayambhunath, and head towards Kathmandu Durbar Square. In the late afternoon, you will meet with your trek guide, and he will brief you about the trek.
Day 3: Drive to Pokhara (850 m); 6 hrs
Today, you will drive to Pokhara. After having breakfast, one of our team members will pick you from your hotel and drive with you to Pokhara. The drive will present you with lovely scenic views of green hills, rivers, terraced fields, and small settlements. Upon reaching Pokhara, you will move to your hotel. Rest of the day you can relax and explore around. You will also be boating on Fewa Lake.
Day 4: Pokhara to Pothana (1,970 m); 5 hrs
From Pokhara, you will take an hour drive to Kande. Kande is the starting point of the trek. Trekking along the forested trail, you will reach Australian Camp (2,100m). The trail from here is an easy walk up to the Pothana.
Day 5: Pothana to Forest Camp (2,550 m); 7 hrs
Leaving Pothana behind, you will leave the main Annapurna Sanctuary trail and trek on off the beaten trail that will take you to MBC. Trekking along with the dense forests of maple, rhododendron, oak, and hemlock, you will reach Forest Camp, which is also known as Kokar for the night stay.
Day 6: Forest Camp to High Camp (4,200 m); 6 hrs
After having a quick breakfast, you will gradually ascend to Badal Danda from where you can see superb views of Mt. Hiunchuli, Mardi Himal, Mt. Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, and Mt. Gangapurna. As the trail moves upward, you will leave the tree line and walk on the Mardi Himal ridge covered with some isolated rhododendron bushes and reach High Camp.
Day 7: High Camp to Mardi Himal Base Camp
Today, you will wake up early and move towards the Mardi Himal Base Camp. The trail will be grassy along with a few steep sections. On the way, you might get to see dzo (crossbreed of cow and yak) and Danphe pheasant. Upon reaching the base camp, you will be welcomed with the surreal view of Himalayan mountains and gorgeous landscape.
Day 8: Mardi Himal Base Camp to Siding Village (1,280 m); 7 hrs
The trail descends to Siding village. Following a different route, you will reach the Low Camp. From here, you walk downhill and reach tradition Siding village where you will get to experience the rich culture of the locals.
Day 9: Siding Village to Pokhara (850 m); 2 - 5 hrs trek & 1 hr drive
After having breakfast, you will trek to Lumre via Kalimati and Ghalel villages. From Lumre, you will hop on the van/car, and drive back to Pokhara.
Day 10: Sightseeing and relaxing Pokhara
Today, you will go sightseeing tour in Pokhara. You will visit famous landmarks like Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, Peace Pagoda, Mountain Museum, etc. In the evening, you can stroll on the bustling Lakeside market and do shopping.
Day 11: Drive/fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu
Today, you drive back to Kathmandu with a pocket full of memories. The drive will be scenic. You also have the option to fly back to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel. You will have enough time to do shopping and spend some quality time. In the late evening, you will join the farewell dinner organized by the company.
Day 12: Departure to destination
After having the last breakfast of your trip, one of our team delegates will take you to the airport terminal for your flight back to your home with our last goodbye.
