Langtang Valley Trek difficulty

Langtang Valley Trek is one of the easiest treks in Langtang region. The route does include many ups & downs, however, it is not as difficult as other treks of this region. You will walk for around 5 to 6 hours daily, therefore good health and stamina is required. And, the best part is anyone with normal health and fitness can go on Langtang Valley Trekking, no prior trekking experience needed at all.

Altitude Sickness and Prevention

Langtang Valley trek brings chances of altitude sickness with itself, as you will be trekking above 3,500 meters. Even if you are healthy and young, you can suffer from AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Therefore, it is very essential to acclimatize properly in the lower elevation before heading higher.

Keep yourself hydrated during the trek and avoid alcoholic drinks as it dehydrates the body. Also, ask your travel company to include enough rest days in between the trek for acclimatization. In case, if you feel difficulty in breathing and nauseous, drop down to lower elevation and rest until you feel better before moving ahead.

Transportation and Bag Pack

Langtang Valley Trek begins with a scenic drive to Syabru Bensi, the starting point of the trek. From here, you will slowly ascend to the Kyanjin Gompa.

Food and Accommodation during Langtang Valley Trek

On Langtang Valley Trek, you will stay overnight in a guesthouse. Usually, rooms are small with a few furniture and shared washrooms. The food will be served as per the menu of the guest house. You can expect to find dishes like rice, curries (veg/non-veg), momo, chowmin, thukpa, bread, bakeries, bars, snacks, tea, coffee, etc.

In Kathmandu, you will stay overnight in 3-star and 5-star hotels, as per your budget. These hotels have their own restaurants, and if you don’t like their food, then there are plenty of options out there.

Best time to go on Langtang Valley Trek

The best time to go on Langtang Valley Trek is in Autumn (September to early-November) and Spring (March-May). The trail gets bloomed up with several wildflowers and weather is also perfect.

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,460 m); 7 hrs

After having breakfast, you will begin our drive towards Syabrubesi along the north-west hills of Kathmandu. During the drive, you will get to witness captivating views of the snow-capped mountains like Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Annapurna II, Ganesh Himal, and numerous other small peaks along with beautiful scenery of river, hillock, forests, and villages. You will pass by the Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati, and Dhunche. Before continuing our trip, you will take a small break at Trishuli Bazar to have your lunch.

Day 2: Trek to Lama Hotel (2,560 m); 5-6 hrs

Today is the first day of your trek. You will begin trekking and cross the Bhote Koshi River. On the trail, you will visit Guru Rinpoche gompa and further, trek following a stone-paved path over Langtang Khola. You will cross a suspension bridge and ascend to the Bamboo village through the landslide area. From here, the trail goes through a beautiful forest of rhododendron, maple, oak, fir, spruce, and blue pine. You might also get to see wildlife like wild boars, langur monkeys, yellow-throated martens, red panda, and Himalayan black bear on your way to the Lama Hotel.

Day 3: Trek to Langtang (3,455 m); 5 hrs

After having breakfast, you will begin ascending on an easy trail. Further, the trail becomes steeper and you will also go through a dense forest of maple, oak, hemlocks, and colorful rhododendron. On the way, you will also get to see a striking glimpse of Mt. Langtang Lirung. Crossing a log bridge, you will ascend towards the meadows of Ghora Tabela. From here, you will pass by small settlements and scattered rhododendron bushes and cross a stream before reaching Langtang Valley. Langtang is a lovely typical Nepali valley surrounded by buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnip, and barley fields.

Day 4: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,817 m); 2-3 hrs

You will traverse through a village and ascend towards a ridge that has a huge chorten. From here, you will slowly ascend past a stunning mani wall and cross a stream to reach Mundu village (3,442 m). Further, the trail includes more streams that you cross by using wooden cantilever bridges and moraines. On the way, you will get to see an intense view of icefall flowing from the Langtang Lirung and Kimshung Peak. You will reach Kyanjin Gompa that welcomes with majestic views of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Ganja La (5,122 m), Langshisha- Ri (6,427 m), Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m), Tsergo Ri (4,984 m), Dorje Lhakpa (6,966 m), Naya Kang (5,844 m), and Yala peak (5,520 m). You will also see a cheese factory operated by Nepal Government and get a chance to taste the cheese & curd made by yak milk.

Day 5: Rest day at Kyanjin Gompa

It is your rest day at Kyanjin Gompa to make your body acclimatized with the increased altitude. You will spend our day strolling around the Kyanjin Gompa. You will wake up early in the morning and hike to the Tsergo Ri from where you will get to see splendid views of Kyanjin Ri (4,350 m), Tserko Ri (5,000 m), Langtang Lirung, Yansa Tsenji, and Kinshung. There are also several other options for side trips to nearby villages.

Day 6: Trek to Lama Hotel; 6 hrs

You will descend on a steep trail and reach Lama Hotel. The trail you will be trekking today is same that you have trekked on before.

Day 7: Trek to Syabrubesi; 5-6 hrs

From Lama Hotel, you will trek through a beautiful forest of rhododendron, maple, oak, fir, spruce, and blue pine. You might also get to see wildlife like wild boars, langur monkeys, yellow-throated martens, red panda, and Himalayan black bear on our way to Syabrubesi. On the way, you will also get to witness captivating views of the snow-capped mountains like Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Annapurna II, Ganesh Himal, and numerous other small peaks along with beautiful scenery of river, hillock, forests, and villages.

Day 8: Drive back to Kathmandu; 7 hrs

Today, you will drive back to Kathmandu after having breakfast. You will follow the same route as before. During the drive, you will get to see enchanting views of terraces, rivers, streams, dense forests, high hills, and small settlements. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will move to your hotel and rest for the day. Later in the evening, you will have a farewell dinner along with crew members.

Day 9: Final depature.
