Gosaikunda Trek with Langtang begins with a drive Syabrubesi along the north-west hills of Kathmandu. On the, we will get to see beautiful views of the snow-capped mountains and numerous small peaks along with wonderful scenery of river, hillock, dense forests, and villages. The trail will lead us to Kyanjin Gompa via Lama Hotel and Langtang village from where we will get to see breath-taking views of Himalayan mountains.

Langtang Gosaikunda trek difficulty

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is considered as one of the most difficult trekking routes of Langtang region that include long steep ascends & descends through sub-alpine dense forests, streams, and rivers. Likewise, on average, you will walk for around 6 to 7 hours each day, which also requires good health and strong physical fitness.

Altitude Sickness and Prevention

Langtang Gosaikunda trek brings chances of altitude sickness with itself, as you will be trekking above 5,000 meters. Even if you are healthy and young, you can suffer from AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Therefore, it is very important to acclimatize properly in the lower elevation before heading higher.

Keep yourself hydrated during the trek and avoid alcoholic drinks as it dehydrates the body. Also, ask your travel company to include enough rest days in between the trek for acclimatization. In case, if you feel difficulty in breathing and nauseous, drop down to lower elevation and rest until you feel better before moving ahead.

Transportation and Bag Pack

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek begins with a scenic drive to Syabru Bensi, the starting point of the trek. From here, you will slowly ascend up to the Gosaikunda Lake.

On Langtang Gosaikunda Trek, you will stay overnight in a guesthouse. Generally, rooms in this guesthouse are small with little furniture and common washrooms. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu airport (1,345 m)

You will arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport and picked up by one of our team delegates. He will escort you to the hotel. Rest of the day is free for you to relax. Later in the evening, you will meet with your guide in your hotel lobby, and he will take you to the restaurant where you will have a delicious welcome dinner. Your guide will also brief you about the trip.

Day 02: City guided tour in Kathmandu

After a quick breakfast, you will go on a guided tour. During the tour, you will visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhnath Stupa, Swayambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and Patan Durbar Square. All of these monuments are the pride of Nepal and its history. Visit these places will allow you to have a look into rich heritage and culture of Nepal.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Syabru Bensi (1,462 m/4,795 ft); 6:30 hrs

We will begin our drive towards Syabrubesi along the north-west hills of Kathmandu. On the, we will get to see beautiful views of the snow-capped mountains like Mt. Annapurna II, Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and numerous other small peaks along with wonderful scenery of river, hillock, dense forests, and villages. You will pass by he Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati, and Dhunche. Before continuing our trip, we will take a small break at Trishuli Bazar to have our lunch.

Day 04: Syabru Bensi to Lama Hotel (2,510 m/8,232 ft)

We will begin trekking after having our breakfast and cross the Bhote Koshi River. On the way, we will visit Guru Rinpoche gompa, and further, trek following a stone paved path over Langtang Khola. Crossing a suspension bridge, we will ascend to the Bamboo village via landslide zone. The trail then goes through a beautiful forest of rhododendron, oak, fir, maple, spruce, and blue pine. We might also get to see wildlife like wild boars, yellow-throated martens, red panda, langur monkeys, and Himalayan black bear on our way to the Lama Hotel.

Day 05: Lama Hotel to Langtang village (3,307 m/10,846 ft)

After having breakfast, we will begin ascending on an easy trail. The trail then becomes steeper, and we will also go through a dense forest of maple, oak, hemlocks, and colorful rhododendron. On the way, we will also get to see a remarkable glimpse of Mt. Langtang Lirung. We will ascend towards the meadows of Ghora Tabela crossing a log bridge. From here, we will pass by small settlements and scattered rhododendron bushes, and cross a stream before reaching Langtang Valley. Langtang is a pretty Nepali valley surrounded by turnip, buckwheat, wheat, potatoes, and barley fields.

Day 06: Langtang village to Chorka Ri (5,050 m/16,564 ft) and back to Kyanjin Gompa

We will traverse through a village and ascend towards a ridge that has a large chorten. We will then slowly ascend past stunning mani wall and cross a stream to reach Mundu village (3,442 m). Further, the trail includes more streams that we cross by using wooden bridges and moraines. On the way, we will get to see a stunning view of icefall flowing from the Langtang Lirung and Kimshung Peak.

We will reach Kyanjin Gompa that welcomes with majestic views of Langtang Lirung (7,246 m), Ganja La (5,160 m), Langshisha- Ri (6,427 m), Gen Jempol, Kyanjin RI (4,750 m), Tsergo RI (5,000 m), Dorje Lhakpa (6 430 m), Naya Kang (5,844 m), and Yala peak (5,500 m). We will also see a cheese factory operated by Nepal Government and get a chance to taste the cheese & curd made by yak milk.

Day 07: Back down to Lama Hotel

We will wake up early and have our breakfast along with superb views of the surrounding. After that, we will trek back to the Lama Hotel following the same trail. Crossing Langtang Khola, we will reach Langtang village and trek towards Ghora Tabela. We will take a small break at Ghora Tabela to have lunch. From here, we will descend all the way down to the Lama Hotel through the forested trail.

Day 08: Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru Village (2,210 m/7,248 ft)

We will ascend along the river to the landslide area and further, pass through juniper & pine forest. We will ascend steeply to Thulo Syabru. On the way, we might come across wildlife like monkeys, red pandas, wild boar, and Himalayan Thar. Thulo Syabru is a picturesque Nepali traditional village from where we can see amazing views of Langtang Himal and Ganesh Himal.

Day 09: Sybru Village to Sing Gompa (3,210 m/10,528 ft)

After having breakfast, we will begin ascending following a steep trail passing through Dursagang. The trial will present us with breath-taking views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himal, and several Tibetan mountains. Further, the trail goes through steep rhododendron forest and take us to the top of Phoparng Danda (3,190 m). From here, we will gradually ascend to the Sing Gompa from where we will get to see an irresistible view of the entire surrounding.

Day 10: Sing Gompa to Gosaikunda (4,380 m/14,366 ft)

We will begin our day with a steep climb to a ridge that is a transition zone amidst moist mountain forests and dry scrub vegetation on the slopes. We will then reach LauriBinaya trekking on a rugged steep path. The trail will present us with wonderful views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu Range, and the Tibetan Mountains. From LauriBinaya, we will ascend above the treeline. Crossing a small ridge, we will get to see the first glimpse of the holy lake, Gosaikunda. There are numerous lakes around Gosaikunda Basin, however, the main three are Saraswatikunda, Bhairabkunda, and Gosaikunda.

Day 11: Gosaikunda to Gopte (3,440 m/11,283 ft)

We will wake up early in the morning and begin our trek towards Laurebina Pass from where we will see panoramic views of Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang Lirung. Today is going to be a long day of our entire trip. After a steep descent from the pass, we will reach Phedi, a small village. The trail from here will lead us to Ghopte our last destination of the day.

Day 12: Ghopte to Kutung Sang (2,621 m/8,596 ft)

Leaving Ghopte behind, we will trek crossing small streams. The trail will be winding and passes through rhododendron & pine forests. We will reach Therapati located at a ridge of a picturesque valley. We will come across the Helambu trail, which we can join if we have extra days on our hand. Further, we will trek through the forest and reach Kutumsang passing by Mangenghoth village.

Day 13: Kutung Sang to Chisopani (2,194 m/7,196 ft)

After having breakfast, we will begin ascending on a ridge. From here, we will descend down to Gul Bhanjyang and again ascend to Cipling where we will take a short break for lunch. Further, we will descend to Thankune Bhanjyang and trek towards Pati Bhanjyang. The trail then drops leading us to Chisopani.

Day 14: Chisopani to Kathmandu via Sundarijal

We will wake up early, and begin trekking after having our breakfast. We will trek through forested trail along with scenic view and reach Sundarijal. From here, we will drive back to Kathmandu on a private tourist bus/van. Upon reaching Kathmandu, we will rest for the day. Later in the evening, we will explore the vibrant and colorful streets of Thamel, and end our day with the delicious farewell dinner.

Day 15: Departure

After having the last breakfast of your trip, you will be taken to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight back to your home. One of the team delegates will take you to the airport terminal with our last goodbye.
