Lukla Airport

Namche Bazar

Everest Base Camp Trek difficulty

Everest Base Camp Trekking is a moderate to difficult journey in the Everest region. The trail includes many ups & downs on steep, rugged, and rocky path. The trail passes by dense forests of rhododendron, fir, pine maple, juniper, etc crossing several streams and rivers, which makes the trail even more adventurous. On average, you have to walk for around 6 to 7 hours a day. All of these demands strong stamina, high strength, and good health.

Anyone can go on this trek until they are physically fit means prior trekking experience is not necessary. However, make sure to go on a few short hikes before the commencement of the trip.

Altitude Sickness and Prevention

Everest Base Camp Trek 16-days is a high elevation journey that will take you above 5,000 meters. There is always a chance of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) or altitude sickness during high altitude treks. Daily, you will gain elevation that will require proper acclimatization or you can also get hit by AMS. However, with enough acclimatization day in between the trekking period and proper guidance, one can easily complete this trek without having any issues. Also, keep yourself hydrated. Drink enough water and other liquids during the trek to avoid altitude sickness. In case you feel difficulty in breathing inform your guide right away so that he can take proper measures on time.

Transportation and Bag Pack

Everest Base Camp Trek begins with a thrilling flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. From Lukla, you will start walking towards Everest Base Camp slowly via villages like Phakding, Namche Bazar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche.

Food and Accommodation during Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest Base Camp Trekking trail is one of the most developed trails of Nepal. There is a wide range of lodge and guesthouse available here that will suit everyone's pocket. The rooms are generally small and are on the twin-sharing term with a few furniture. You can find a comfortable bed and hot shower along with common bathrooms. Similarly, there is the facility of WiFi, however, the connection might not be stable due to weather. Food like Dal Bhat and Sherpa cuisine can be found everywhere along with momo, chowmein, thukpa, pizza, sandwich, bread, bars, tea, coffee, and other beverages.

As per your budget, you will be staying mostly at either a 3-star hotel or 5-star hotels in the major cities. These hotels have their own restaurants, which means that you don’t have to worry about eating elsewhere. You can also explore around and dine in numerous restaurants & cafes that are available out there.

Best Season to go on Everest Base Camp Trek

Spring (March to April) and Autumn (late September to November) is considered the most desirable time to go on Everest Base Camp Trekking. This is the best time of the year to travel in the Khumbu region as the views are clear and fantastic. Moreover, the weather is neither too cold nor too hot, perfect to traverse.

Likewise, Monsoon (June to mid-September) is not a favored time to go on trekking in the Everest region. The rainfall makes the views unclear and trail also become slippery & full of bugs.

However, in Winter (December to February), people do go on EBC Trekking, especially photographers as this is the best time to capture the surreal views of Himalayas. But, with excellent views comes harsh cold and heavy snowfall. Therefore, be prepared nicely before commencing the trek.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu via respective airlines

Arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport. One of the delegates from Go For Nepal Treks & Expedition will pick you up from the airport and take you to the hotel. You can rest for the day. In the evening, you will stroll on the bustling streets of Thamel, and have a delicious traditional welcome dinner.

Day 02: Fly to Lukla (2,820 m) and walk to Phakding (2,640 m); 4 hrs

Today, you will fly to one of the most extreme airports in the world, Lukla airport. The flight will give you first view of snow-capped mountains. Upon landing at Lukla airport, you will get freshen up and meet other crew members. After some time, you will begin gradually descending towards Phakding village through the forested trail. The trail then goes along the Dudh Koshi River and take you to this village from where a superb view of Kusum Kanguru Peak can be seen.

Day 03: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m); 5 hrs

Following an uphill trail, you will reach Monjo. From here, Sagarmatha National Park begins, and you will trek through the national park. The trail will include several ascend & descends through dense forests crossing several streams and rivers. Passing by little settlement areas, you will reach Jorsale where you will cross a suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River and climb to Namche Bazar.

Day 04: Rest day at Namche for acclimatization and hike to nearby areas

Today is your day of a rest day in beautiful Namche Bazar. You will spend this day exploring around. In the morning, you will go on a short excursion to Syangboche Airstrip or Everest View Hotel to observe excellent views of Himalayan mountains like Mt. Everest, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku, Kongde Ri, etc. After the short tour, you will come back to Namche Bazar, and visit the Everest Photo Gallery and Sherpa Culture Museum.

Day 05: Trek to Tengboche Monastery (3,867 m); 5 hrs

You will gradually move up through lush forests after having breakfast. Passing by Imja Khola, you will trek through beautiful rhododendron forests to reach Tengboche village. This village will welcome you with astonishing views of Ama Dablam and Mt. Everest. Here, you will visit the largest and biggest monastery of the Khumbu region, Tengboche monastery.

Day 06: Trek to Dingboche (4,360 m); 5hrs

Crossing various suspension bridges, you will head towards Dingboche. The trail will go through villages like Pangboche and Orsho. On the way, you will see several monasteries, mani stones, and chortens. Upon reaching Dingboche, you will see beautiful views of snow-capped mountains.

Day 07: Rest day at Dingboche for acclimatization and excursion

This is your rest day at Dingboche, the famous Summer Valley of Khumbu region. You will spend the day exploring and interacting with the locals.

Day 08: Trek to Lobuche (4,930 m); 5 hrs

From Dingboche, you will hike towards pastures. Today, you will notice a change in surrounding from lush forests to sparsely-dotted shrubs with snowy areas along the way. The trail will take you to Lobuche, a beautiful village located at the bottom of Mt. Lobuche. From Lobuche, you will get to see breath-taking views of Khumbutse Himalayan Peaks, Mt. Lingtern, and Mt. Pumori.

Day 09: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and return to Gorakshep (5,180 m); 6 hrs

The trail will lead you to the base of the world's highest mountain, Mt. Everest. It is going to be a long yet adventurous day. After a quick breakfast, you will ascend and reach Gorakshep. From here, the trail goes along the Khumbu glacier moraines and take you the EBC. Upon reaching the base camp, you will see excellent views of the Khumbu Icefall, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Kongde, Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori, Island Peak, Mt. Cho Oyu, and numerous other mountains. After spending some time at the Everest Base Camp, you will trek back to Gorak Shep.

Day 10: Hike to Kalapathar (5,545 m) trek to Pheriche (4,240 m); 5 hrs

You will wake up early in the morning to go on short excursions to the Kala Patthar viewpoint early in the morning to see a sumptuous sunrise. Also, from Kala Patthar, you can see a 360-degree view of Mt. Everest and its surrounding mountains. After soaking beautiful views, you will descend to Pheriche or night stay.

Day 11: Trek to Kyanjima (3,630 m), near Namche & Khumjung via Thyangboche; 6 hrs

The trail passes by several small villages and lush forest. You will reach Kyanjima, which is located near Namche Bazar. The trail the take you to Pangboche. From here, you will walk a little more and reach Thyangboche Monastery.

Day 12: Trek to Monjo (2,880 m); 6 hrs

After having breakfast, you will slowly descend and reach Namche Bazar. Here, you will take a short lunch break and descend further down to Monjo via Sagarmatha National Park.

Day 13: Trek to Lukla; 4 hrs

Leaving Monjo behind, you will descend and reach Phakding village. From here, you will begin trekking along the Dudh Koshi River and then ascend through the forested trail to reach Lukla. You will be retracing the same path as before.

Day 14: Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel

An early morning flight will take you back to Kathmandu. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will be moved to the hotel. Rest of the day is free for you to traverse the nearby market and do shopping. Later, in the late evening, you will have a farewell dinner organized by the company.

Day 15: Free day in Kathmandu with an optional sightseeing tour

You can use this day for guided sightseeing of the monuments like Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhnath Stupa, Swayambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, or just relax and do shopping.

Day 16: Transfer to International Airport for flight homeward bound

As per your flight departure time, you will get moved to the airport by one of our team representatives. He will drop you at the international airport terminal gate and bid you our last goodbye & good wishes.
