Manang

Tilicho Lake

Tilicho Lake is one of the most gorgeous lakes in Nepal situated at 4,919 meters. The lake is made from the melting of glacial from the northern slope of Mt. Annapurna. This lake also has holy importance for Hindus and is one of the pilgrimage sites of Nepal.

Thorong La Pass

Located at 5,440 meters, Thorong La Pass is the highest point of Annapurna Tilicho Trek. To reach the top of the pass, you have to ascend on the steep rugged trail that is challenging. From the top of the pass, you can see the most gorgeous views of the surrounding.

Muktinath Temple

Muktinath temple is one of the pilgrimage sites of Hindus. Every year hundreds of pilgrims visit this temple to worship. The temple boat thousands of year old tradition and history.

Hot Spring at Tatopani

After your successful trek to Tilicho Lake, you will descend to Jhinu Danda via Bamboo village. At Jhinu Danda, you will find natural hot spring where you can take a long relaxing bath and clear you thought and soul.

Ghorepani Village

Ghorepani is a beautiful village surrounded by lovely rhododendron forests and mountains. This village will present you the rich culture and tradition of Gurung people, their daily lifestyle, and unique houses. This village is also one of the main highlights of Ghorepani Poonhill Trek.

Poon Hill Viewpoint

Poonhill is the main highlight of this trek. Natural Aptitude

Annapurna region is extremely rich in vegetation. The region includes a diverse range of forests from sub-tropical low land to dry alpine environment. Annapurna region is home to many rare and outstanding species of flora and fauna. During the Annapurna Tilicho Trek, you will trek through several dense forests of rhododendron, bamboo, pine, oak, etc. On the way, you will also see pasture lands and terraced fields. **Annapurna Tilicho Trek difficulty **

The Annapurna Tilicho trek is a comparatively difficult trek, which involves lots of walking and that too through steep & landslide-prone paths. This trail commands you to walk for at least 5 to 6 hours a day, and the combination of snow and strong winds may take its toll on you. Before making the trek, make sure that you have the required level of stamina and willpower to complete this trek.

Altitude Sickness and Prevention

This trek will take you around 5,000 meters, which is a very high altitude. And, the high altitude trekking always brings chances of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) with it. It is a common illness that occurs during high elevation trekking and can be avoided by adding rest days in between the trek. Also, keep yourself hydrated can decrease the chances of AMS.

Transportation and Bag Pack

With a long scenic drive from Kathmandu, you will reach Beshisahar, the starting point of the trek. From here, you will pass by beautiful villages and trek up to the Tilicho Base Camp. Further, you will descend to Muktinath Temple crossing challenging Thorong La Pass and drop down to Nayapul. Leaving Nayapul behind, you will drive back to Pokhara and then to Kathmandu.

Food and Accommodation during Annapurna Tilicho Trek

During your time in the Annapurna Tilicho trek, you will be spending your time in one of the teahouses and lodges present on the trail. There are no fancy lodges here, so you need to suffice with the local teahouses. However, in the main cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, you can reside in quality hotels. Your budget will be a major determining factor.

In the trail, you’ll mostly dine on dal bhat whereas, in the city, you can choose from a variety of cuisines. While on the trail, these lavish hotels won’t be available. You will have to make do with simple lodges and teahouses. In terms of food, you won’t eat anything fancy while you are trekking. However, dishes like noodles, momo, rice, curries, flatbread, thukpa, and egg will be available.

Best time to go on Annapurna Tilicho Trek

The best time to go on Annapurna Tilicho Trek is during Spring and Autumn. Early March to April and October to mid-December falls under this season. The monsoon rain clears the weather and provides a surreal view of the Himalayan ranges. The trails aren’t slippery and the most important fact, the temperature is neither too cold nor too hot.

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Beshisahar; 7 hrs

After having breakfast, you will drive to Besisahar on a winding road along the Trishuli River. The drive will present you scenic views. Upon reaching Besisahar, you will head to the lodge where you will stay overnight.

Day 2: Trek to Chame; 6-7 hrs

From Besisahar, you will head towards Chame. Crossing a suspension bridge, you will ascend through the dense forest of oak and fir. Further, you will pass by small villages and reach Chame.

Day 3: Trek to Upper Pisang; 4 hrs

Trekking on a steep narrow river valley, you will head to Lower Pisang. The path will be winding and goes through dense forests. From here, the trail will ascend and take you to Upper Pisang. You will get to see superb views of Pisang Peak and Mt. Annapurna II from Upper Pisang.

Day 4: Trek to Manang; 6-7 hrs

To reach Braga or Manang there are two routes, however, you will follow the route that takes you to Upper Pisang via Geru. The trail will offer you excellent views of Annapurna range and Pisang. Similarly, you will get accompanied by the gorgeous scenery. You will reach Braga where you will visit the largest monastery of Manang district, Braga monastery. From here, a short walk will take you to Manang village.

Day 5: Rest day at Manang

Today is your acclimatization day in Manang. You will explore around the village and go on a short hike to either Bhojo Gumba or Gangapurna Lake. You can also visit the Himalayan Rescue Association to get some idea on Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

Day 6: Trek to Khangsar; 5 hrs

From Manang, the trail descends to Marsyangdi river. You will then cross Jharsing Khola on a suspension bridge and continue descending towards a glacial lake. On the way, you will get to see wonderful views of Mt. Annapurna II, Mt. Annapurna IV, and other mountains. You will reach Khangsar, from where the view of the Great Barrier can be seen.

Day 7: Trek to Tilicho Base Camp; 3 hrs

The trail ascends on a steep path and goes through a lush forest of juniper and sea buckthorn bushes. You will then walk on a trail that is covered by small crystals and shrubs. Crossing a few streams, you will reach a crest and drop down on zigzag slope to reach Tilicho Base Camp.

Day 8: Rest day at Tilicho Base Camp

Today, you will spend the day exploring around. You will hike up to the beautiful Tilicho Lake. Trekking through moraine, you will make a long ascend and reach the highest lake in the world, Tilicho Lake. On the way, you will get to see excellent views of Gangapurna, Khangsar Kang, and Tarke Gyang. Tilicho Lake is a lovely turquoise color lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains. After spending some time here, you will head back to the base camp for night stay.

Day 9: Trek to Yak Kharka; 7 hrs

The trail continues to climb out of the Marsyangdi Valley. The trail follows this valley north, passing a Goths as it steadily gains elevation. You have left the large trees below; the vegetation now consists of scrub juniper and alpine grasses. you can keep high and follow a track 400meters or so above Khangsar village passing through the ruins of old Khangsar and follow an unmarked trail which will lead you around and down to cross the river on an old log bridge between Gunsang and Yak Kharka. It’s fun to see large yaks grazing at Yak Kharka. The view of Annapurna III is excellent.

Day 10: Trek to Phedi; 4 hrs

Leaving Yak Kharka behind, you will cross a stream and ascend. Further, trek in the northwest to reach Jarsang Khola Valley. Passing by pastures and juniper trees, you will gradually ascend to the small village. The trail then goes through meadows and lead you to Thorong Phedi.

Day 11: Trek to Muktinath crossing Thorong La Pass; 10 hrs

Today, you will wake up early in the morning and continue trekking to Muktinath. Before reaching Muktinath temple, you will cross challenging Thorong La Pass. After having a quick breakfast, you will climb upward on along rocky ridges that will take you to the top of the pass from where a fantastic view of surrounding can be seen.

From here, the trail descends to steeply to Muktinath Temple, an important holy site of Hindus.

Day 12: Trek to Tatopani; 6 hrs

After having breakfast, you will gradually descend to Tatopani where you will find natural hot spring. You can pay a few extra bucks and have some good time in the hot spring.

Day 13: Trek to Ghorepani; 7 hrs

Leaving Tatopani behind, you will drop down through farming land. The trail then goes along a river and further pass by beautiful forests of rhododendron & oak. You will then cross three clear streams and gradually descend to reach Ghorepani.

Day14: Trek to Poonhill, descend to Nayapul, and drive to Pokhara; 7 hrs

Today, you will wake up early in the morning to witness the gorgeous sunrise from Poon Hill. The trail to Poon Hill is mostly ascended on a rugged path. After spending some time here, you will come back to Ghorepani for breakfast and move towards Nayapul and drive back to Pokhara. This time you can do boating on lovely Fewa Lake while looking over Mt. Fishtail.

Day 15: Drive back to Kathmandu; 7-8 hrs

Leaving Pokhara behind, you will drive back to Kathmandu. You will follow the same route and reach Kathmandu. You can do the shopping and look around. In the evening, you will have a farewell dinner organized by the company.
